Group IS, the IT division of The Carphone Warehouse, has evolved rapidly since the Company was founded in 1989. Senior Management recognised the need to show employees how they could develop their careers in the company and to provide more direction and support to individuals wanting to do so. In short, they wanted to inject some 'oxygen' into the existing personal development programme 'MAXIMISE'.
As the company was maturing, business processes were becoming more formalised and there was a requirement to more clearly define roles, skill requirements and development plans for individuals to move from one job to another.
The Connor Consultancy was asked to build a career development framework based on job families which aligned with the Group IS business processes would help individuals to understand how to better manage and advance their careers. To achieve this goal there was a clear requirement to more clearly define roles, skill requirements, competency levels, performance standards and how to build development plans to allow employees to move from one job to another.
