The Do’s and Don’ts of Company Change
Many companies are experiencing a period of change – be that with staff moving on or simply being transferred into other roles. Outplacement services are being widely utilised by large companies looking to ensure their personnel are able to find suitable roles or read just to new ones.
For those staying and experiencing change, we have developed a few recommendations to help deal with the situation:
- Doing more with less! - The initial stages of any change will be the most sensitive as smaller teams will have to deal with the same levels of work as before. It is important to manage the remaining members of the team, support them in any way you can and set clear, agreed objectives
- Communicate Success – One of the benefits of an outplacement support programme is that enables you to communicate to the remaining team members the success of the programme as their ex-colleagues and friends find alternative employment. This is critical in increasing morale and showing the company has supported the employees who have left the organisation.
- Manage the Survivors – During these testing times it is critical that everyone is focused and pulling in the right direction. Many companies fail to invest enough time and effort into managing the remaining employees, this means that the remaining employees often have one eye on the job market rather than both eyes on the task in hand. Often key performers leave to alternative employment as they fear they ‘could be next to be made redundant’. Try to work more closely with those who are the company’s long term asset and ensure that they feel their development and career have not been shelved.
There are many facets to outplacement and outplacement services, it can lead to strong career opportunities for those moving on and for personnel being re-trained for alternative posts within any organisation.
