Outplacement: Career Objectives

Career Choice Decision Matrix

The Career Choice Decision Matrix will not make decisions for you but it can be a useful tool for identifying the objective differences between what you want/need and what they offer.

The higher the Total Score on this model, the better the fit to your preferences. With this information you will be better equipped to effectively prioritise various career directions and opportunities as well as focus your efforts in specific areas.

The table is constructed with your key motivators and key inhibitors as headings.

  1. I have put in an illustrative Matrix as an example. List your motivators for your perfect job – or the job you would be willing to accept.
  2. Score each Career Motivator reflecting how important that quality is to you. The number should be within a scale of 1 - 5, 1 means not very important to you, 5 means critical to you.
  3. For the job on offer - score from 1 to 5 how closely the Career Motivator is contained in that job.
  4. Multiply the motivator weighting by the weighting assigned to the opportunity. Add up these results for the opportunity.
